本劇由《醜聞 Scandal》編劇 Paul William Davies 執筆，Tom Verica 執導。劇情背景設置在紐約南區聯邦法院，講述了辯控 雙方律師的年輕菜鳥處理全國最受矚目及風險最高的案子，同時劇中會穿插著他們的個人生活。 Sandra Bell（Britt Robertson 飾）及 Allison Adams（Jasmin Savoy Brown 飾）是對好閨蜜，她們和 Jay Simmons（Wesam Keesh 飾）皆是公設辯護人，在 Jill Carlan（Hope Davis 飾）手下工作；他們的對手有檢察官 Seth Oliver（Ben Rappaport 飾）﹑Leonard Knox（Regé-Jean Page 飾）﹑Kate Littlejohn（Susannah Flood 飾）及他們的刑事司上司 Roger Gunn（Ben Shenkman 飾）。在庭上他們一同面對法官 Nicholas Byrne（Vondie Curtis - Hall 飾） 及法庭書記官 Tina Krissman（Anna Deavere Smith 飾）。

Elsewhere, Seth gets assigned to the case of a lifetime, but his anxiety increases when he is appointed a bodyguard to help protect him, all while Sandra and Ted take their relationship up a notch.
